Worldwide, men of all ages experience penis itching and many are too embarrassed to seek help. Instead, they battle on with the condition and hope that eventually their penis itch will just disappear. Unfortunately, in many cases this has an adverse effect on the sufferer’s sexual confidence and sex life in general, and the penis irritation continues to become worse.
 Itchy Penis Causes

Many men automatically assume that an itchy penis is caused by an STD. However, in many cases this is not the reason behind the penis itching. In fact, there are some 18 different causes of penis itch. Some of these are as follows:

Balantis – This is an inflammation of the head of the penis, also known as the glans. This condition is typically caused by a fungal or viral infection.

Candida Infection (Thrush) – Candida albicans is a microscopic organism that lives in the mouth, vagina, and digestive tract. It is a natural part of human ecology. When Ph levels change in the body, this micro organism can begin to over populate. This is when it becomes a problem and causes penis itch.

Pubic Lice and Scabies – Pubic lice and scabies are microscopic parasitic insects that live in the pubic area. Like mosquitoes, they bite their victim and feed on their blood. These organisms are spread by sexual contact and can be difficult to get rid of, especially if a large infestation is present.

Psoriasis, Dermatitis, Eczema and Allergies – These are all abnormal skin conditions wherein the skin’s cell production is impaired and skin flaking and redness occur. In most cases, this condition is caused in penis irritation.

Trichomoniasis – A sexually transmitted disease that typically affects women aged 16 to 35 years. This illness is associated with chlamydia and is spread via sexual contact. There are some 7 million new cases reported annually in the U.S.

Tinea Infection – Also known as kerion celsi, this condition is a fungal skin infection that can cause penis itch.

 Itchy Penis Symptoms

Not all conditions have the same symptoms and some are more profound than others. That’s why it is important to make a note of all symptoms, so that an effective treatment can be found. The symptoms for the conditions mentioned above are listed below.

Balantis – An inflamed penis head, penis itching, toughened penis skin, and the foreskin may be red.

Candida Infection (Thrush) – Symptoms include a burning sensation when urinating, penis itching and penis irritation, as well as a white discharge from the eye of the penis.

Pubic Lice and Scabies – Severe penis irritation and penis itching, scabs and sores on the penis, and red and inflamed penis skin.

Psoriasis, Dermatitis, Eczema and Allergies – Itchy penis, penis skin redness and thickening, and dry, flaky penis skin.

Trichomoniasis – Penis itching, a burning sensation when urinating or ejaculating, and a penis discharge that may be frothy or a yellowish-green color.

Tinea Infection – A penis itch, inflamed penis skin and, hair loss and possible sores in the infected area.

 Itchy Penis Treatment

It is suggested that immediate treatment be sought for penis itch so that permanent skin damage, reduced penis and sexual function, and possible complications that can result in major organ damage are avoided. Treatments for the conditions listed are as follows:

Balantis – Abstaining from sexual activity, careful bathing, and antibiotic medications.

Candida Infection (Thrush) – Oral medications and creams to control thrush and bring skin back to normal.

Pubic Lice and Scabies – Over-the-counter lotions and shampoos and prescribed medications are used to treat these conditions. It is also recommended that all clothing and bedding be washed thoroughly to avoid re-infection.

Psoriasis, Dermatitis, Eczema and Allergies – Lifestyle changes are needed to rectify these conditions. This means wearing different underwear and clothing, and using different soaps and condoms. Look critically at anything that comes into contact with the penis critically, and consider using alternatives to eliminate the cause of the penis irritation. Also eat a healthy, balance diet and drink plenty of water.

Trichomoniasis – Antibiotics are needed to treat this condition. These will need to be prescribed by a doctor.

Tinea Infection – A cream can be purchased at a supermarket or drug store, or a medication can be prescribed by a doctor.
