The Royal Lahaina Resort invites guests to spend the Labor Day weekend (Friday, Sept. 4-Sunday, Sept. 6), as chefs fly into Maui to provide once-in-a-lifetime dining experiences all over the island. The event kicks off on Friday the 4th of September, as the Lahaina's chef Bernardo Salazar heats it up at the Food & Wine Festival's annual golf tournament.

Other events during the Royal Lahaina's weekend include the Moscow Mule Maui Mixology seminar, signature dining events, and the Grown on Maui farmer's market. During the event, visitors can enjoy 50% savings on certain bottles of wine at the Royal Ocean Terrace Restaurant. For tickets, scheduling, and additional information, visit the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival's website.

The Hawaii Food & Wine Festival was founded by two of Hawaii's top chefs, Roy Yamaguchi and Alan Wong.

Alan Wong is internationally known for his fusion of cooking styles that uses the finest ingredients, for local fare with a contemporary flair. Wong has won the James Beard Award for Best Chef in the Northwest, and he was one of ten US chefs nominated for the Wedgewood Award for World Master of the Culinary Arts. He has been recognized as a master of regional cuisine by Bon Appetit, and his restaurant has twice been ranked by Gourmet.

Roy Yamaguchi is Hawaiian fusion cuisine's creator, and he skillfully combines spices and flavors with local ingredients with a focus on fresh seafood. Yamaguchi was born in Tokyo, and graduated from New York's Culinary Institute of America. He opened his first Hawaiian restaurant in 1988, and that restaurant soon became the best fusion eatery in Honolulu. Roy's has recently been added to Conde Nast Traveler's top 50 list.

The 2015 festival includes a roster of over one hundred internationally-known culinary personalities and wine & spirits experts. In honor of the Festival, the Royal Lahaina is hosting a poolside BBQ with drink specials and live music on Sunday the 6th from 11am-3pm.

There, guests can enjoy a selection of salads, BBQ beans with applewood-smoked bacon, macaroni and cheese with lobster, broiled fish, beef brisket, chicken, ribs, sausage, desserts and so much more. The cost for the BBQ is $32 not including gratuity and tax, and guests can call 808-661-3611 for additional info.

The Hawaii Food & Wine Festival is one of the best epicurean events in the Pacific, and the Royal Lahaina Resort is honored to be part of it. Set in tropical paradise, the Festival takes place over the course of two weeks on the islands. The festival on Maui, the Big Island, Honolulu and the Ko Olina Reosrt promises cooking demonstrations, wine tastings, one-of-a-kind trips and dining opportunities with dishes that showcase the state's bounty of poultry, beef, seafood and locally-grown produce.

About The Royal Lahaina Resort

The article is called “You Haven't Been To Hawaii If You Haven't Been To a Luau!” and it charts the history of the luau—from its beginnings to the celebrations often held to this day. One of the topics the article covers is all of the different types of food found at a luau. This section was included to show that while the modern luau has changed much from early days there are still familiar dishes available that are prepared in the classic way.
